Well after 8 years of working out of my two car garage and 3 years of doing carbs and distributors and work for friends I'm moving full time into a shop and making Trollhole's Cruisers my full time job. This means I'm starting from scratch on a new shop. I've been looking a while for a place that would be big enough, secure enough and wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg. I finally found a place this past week and signed a lease.

Coil "Smoking"

Before I go to a new dizzy, I have a question please. I have 1974 FJ40, i noticed the coil was "smoking" slightly when the ignition switch was on for a few seconds without engaging the starter. But once the engine started all was ok with no "smoking". i replaced the coil and ballast resistor but still have the same problem with the "smoking" . I am not trying to start the engine till this is resolved. Is this "normal" or what could be the cause if not?

Have you ever thought about having a signature emblem? You know ICON has the lizard eating its own tail. For a Vortec swap I see a little troll wearing a bow tie, if you did a diesel he could be smoking a pipe with puffs of black smoke. I'd be proud to have one on my cruiser.

So I've got a couple of these under my belt and pretty much have all the kinks out. It's not nearly as easy as bolting on a set of shortened 40 bows and here is why. The b pillar post that comes out of the stock 40 bows doesn't line up with the hole in the b pillar tub. It's off maybe 3/4 of an inch. As well the standard 40 bows use a 1" diameter tube that slides down in the b pillar. On 45's this hole is 7/8. So in order for it to fit right you have to cut the tube coming out of the...

Trollhole carb questions

Got my carb instlled and it performed as expected.
Any ideas on lengthening the center bolt that holds the filter housing onto the carb throat?
Has anyone experienced the secondary hanging very slightly causing a rich condition at idle?
I lightly touched the linkage and it closed.

First and for most I'd like to say you make some quality stuff.. great transaction and good communication. .. So I asked if you had a thing to cover a besttop soft top and you refered to me the trail cover for the hard top... You also said that you didn't know how it would fit... we'll it fits good, perfect no but if you have a fj, is anything really "perfect". I really only need it because I have my doors off now, and will use it as extra protection in the winter. New jersey winters...

On this unit all you do is pop the old one out install the new one. Connect the black wire to the negative on the coil and the red wire to the positive side of the coil. That is it. You don't use the igniter that came on some of the later 40's. You will need a ballast resistor if you're using the stock coil.

I want to be honest with you guys about something that happened this past friday that is going to cause me to be a little slow on shipping out and responding about orders. I had a heart attack. I'm alive is the good news and moving around somewhat but the medicine they have me on makes me move really slow. And I'm limited to what I can do. I have a stint in my heart now permanently.
